Free website check by Overdrive
About our website check
OverdriveSiteCheck is the name our checker uses when it visits a website. If you saw it in your site's logs, this page tells you what it is and how to make it stop.
What it does
Someone typed your site into our free check at audit.overdriveautomations.com. When they type it, our checker opens your home page once to show them a quick look at it. If they say it is their business's site, or that they work for them, the checker then visits a few pages. It looks for problems with access for people with disabilities, privacy and cookie rules, and forms.
What it will not do
- It only visits sites someone typed in. It does not roam the web.
- It looks at 5 pages at most: the home page and up to 4 more.
- It stays on one site. Your home page may send it on to a new address. It follows up to 5 of those jumps, and only one may lead to a different site. Then it checks the site it lands on. Every other page must stay on that site.
- For the quick look, it follows up to 3 jumps.
- It also opens the plain http address of your home page once, to see if it moves people to the safe https one.
- It does not send your forms, buy things or sign in.
- We usually run a full check on the same site at most once in 30 days.
How to spot it
It says who it is on every visit, with this name:
OverdriveSiteCheck/1.0 (+https://audit.overdriveautomations.com/about-the-scan)
How to ask us to stop
Email Grant at grant@overdriveautomations.com and we will stop checking your site and delete any report we have. We do not read robots.txt. To stop us, email Grant, or block the name OverdriveSiteCheck in your server or firewall settings. If your site turns it away, the check just ends.
